Substitute Teacher Training Program

Please note:  All initial substitute teachers may complete the course work but will not be able to finish the observation until school resumes for the 2019-2020 school year.  Once the observation is completed in late August or September, a certificate of completion will be awarded.

Mountain State ESC offers online substitute teacher training for new substitutes and for those who need to renew their license. See the information below to determine if substitute teaching is right for you. Completion of the course is not a guarantee for employment or licensure. Each county personnel office handles hiring of substitutes. You will need to check with the county you wish to work in  to determine their need.

Policy 5202 requires initial certification candidates to complete 18 hours of training (12 hours coursework and six hours observation). Renewals require 12 hours of coursework.
