POSITION: Farm to School Livestock Compliance Officer (Cabell County Schools)

EMPLOYMENT TERM: To be determined
SALARY: $150.00 per day
About this Opportunity:

Mountain State Educational Services Cooperative’s function is to ensure that meat products processed for Cabell County Schools meet state and federal requirements governing the wholesomeness and purity of meat and products. Site inspections involve live animals, carcasses, slaughter, processing operations and finished products. The compliance officer will record all findings and tasks and document spot checks of daily activities in reports.
1. Make bi-weekly on site visits to farm(s) and meat processing facility
2. Check tags of livestock to verify with documentation:
• Heifers and Steers only
• Grain fed for at least 90 days prior to slaughter
• Average weight of 700 pounds
• Up to 30 months of age
• No Bulls
• Carcass hangs for 7-10 days before processing
3. Review paperwork of livestock at farm and again at processing facility to ensure consistency and remit to MSESC Executive Director and Cabell Food Services Director
4. Verify at processing facility correct tags/livestock to be slaughtered
5. Thorough knowledge of all pertinent contracts
6. Report any irregularities to Food Services Director/and or pertinent Cabell County/MSESC staff
1. Completion of high school, proven experience in the food safety or meat industries
2. Ability to determine if quality matches applicable contracts/stipulations
3. Ability to work with various members of the team (i.e. Farmers, Food Service Director, Meat Processing Manager, and Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent)
4. Strong people and organizational skills
5. Ability to meet deadlines
Conditions of Employment: Must live within a 50-mile radius of Cabell County, West Virginia.
