English Language Learner (EL) Support

Both virtual and live teacher trainings in English Learner (EL) support were conducted by Erin Saxe throughout 2021-2022. Virtual two-hour trainings were held in March, June, August, October and December on topics such as teaching vocabulary, best practices, and family engagement for English Learners. These trainings were attended by dozens of teachers in numerous districts across the state. In addition, live and virtual EL technical support was offered to teachers and staff in Cabell and Logan counties throughout the year. This included, virtual and live trainings, coaching, and data analysis and LEIP committee meetings.

A continuing education course was offered for all WV teachers on English language learning standards through Marshall University in the summer of 2021. Twenty-five teachers from seven districts attended the on-line course and received three hours of CE credit toward teacher recertification and advanced salary classification.
