Position:         Communications Director

Length of Employment: 261 days

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in journalism, public relations, advertising, marketing, broadcast production, fine arts, or other related field of expertise.
  • 2-3 years professional experience working in public relations, journalism or associated field.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong people and organizational skills.
  • Advanced computer/mobile device skills.
  • Demonstrate advanced ability to utilize photo/video cameras and equipment; digital processing and video and sound editing software (such as Photoshop, Adobe Premier, or Final Cut Pro); as well as lighting and sound equipment.
  • Demonstrated record of success completing production projects such as videos, original graphic designs, brochures, other collateral, and/or other multimedia projects (portfolio of work required).
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the appropriate use of website and social media platforms and demonstrate advanced knowledge of the technical aspects of these platforms.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and to treat sensitive information confidentially.
  • Ability to work flexible hours as assigned, including some evenings and weekends.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with access to reliable means of transportation.

 Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

Strategic Communications/Planning

  • Develop and execute comprehensive, strategic communications plans for assigned MSESC and cooperative member initiatives and information campaigns.
  • Create plans for consistent posting of social media content.
  • Provide ethical, strategic public relations advisory services to MSESC leadership, staff and cooperative members.
  • Assist leadership and cooperative members with crisis communication and crisis communication planning.

News/Copy Writing

  • Research, write and edit news releases and copy for brochures, websites, social media, mobile apps, newsletters, rapid notification messages, and other MSESC and member publications and platforms.
  • Maintain quality standards in writing style across all communication platforms.

Content Creation

  • Create compelling, relevant content utilizing video, audio, photography, and graphic design for social media, websites, newsletters, employee communication, special events, staff development/training, rapid notification, crisis communication, and other outreach vehicles as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Maintain quality consistency in graphic standards and content appropriateness across all projects, publications and platforms.
  • Manage assigned social media sites and websites. Assure compliance with MSESC , state and school system policies and provide staff development opportunities to improve social media and website outreach efforts.
  • Attend regular MSESC Advisory Council meetings and assigned MSESC and cooperative member special events to take photos and/or video to be posted to appropriate websites and social media platforms.
  • Livestream MSESC and cooperative member events as assigned.
  • Provide timely, accurate responses to inquiries/comments on assigned social media platforms.
  • Monitor assigned social media accounts and provide guidance/training to account users as needed.
  • Assist MSESC and cooperative member staff in developing, planning, and executing special events that recognize student/staff accomplishments and/or promote school system\programs and initiatives.
  • Other tasks/projects/duties assigned by the Executive Director.
